UPDATE: I appear to have somehow fixed the A80's famous E18 error by taking everything out (batteries, compact flash card etc), leaving it, and then putting them back in. I think the CF card wasn't connecting properly (I'd tried removing the batteries before). Anyway, I have a camera again. Hurrah.
