Taxpayer dollars wasted

Honestly, those out of control law-and-order magistrates in NSW, wasting taxpayer dollars with crazy judgments that need to be promptly overturned on appeal, at great public expense:
After all, she had nothing on her criminal record, pleaded guilty straight away and had shown remorse. Judge Hosking took just 10 minutes to overturn the jail term.

"In my view the magistrate was clearly in error in sentencing Ms Back to three months imprisonment and that penalty falls completely outside the range of sentencing options," he said.

As a taxpayer (albeit in another state*), I'm outraged. Why are we* paying for this kind of stupidity?

Bloody conservative judicial activists. I'm sick of 'em.

*You know the rule, a "why am I paying taxes for this outrage" rant should never be held back by minor details like whether the person making the complaint actually is personally paying money to the relevant party or not.

I sentence you to a billionty years in prison, with a non-parole period of a millionty years

We can all see what's coming next:
The prosecution asked that Xydias be sentenced for a "long, long time", noting it was within the Chief Justice's power to sentence him to more than a thousand years' jail.

You know these liberal judges; we'll be lucky if he gets over a hundred. His corpse will be eventually paroled, and his victims' (and their distant descendants') corpses will once again be at risk. It's an insult to their suffering for him not to receive as many fictional years he could never possibly serve as are bizarrely available under the legislation.

Because longer sentences make life demonstrably better for victims. Here's the evidence:

Victim hearing that criminal has received a sentence that matches what equivalent offenders have received and takes into account aggravating and mitigating factors in a careful, considered assessment of the evidence and long-established sentencing principles

Victim hearing that criminal has received a sentence of 100 years past the longest ever human lifespan in recorded history

Victim hearing that criminal has received a sentence of a thousand years

See? And imagine if the wussy parliaments had enabled, and the courts then laid down, a sentence even longer than that - she'd be downright ecstatic, her pain would magically disappear, and everything would be alright again.

In summary: if we can imagine a punishment, then a bad person deserves to have it done to them. Even if it is silly (or involves us actually hiring some kind of complete sicko to carry it out).

Iran shows us just what we could achieve with the death penalty

Bloody bleeding-heart lefties! I'm sick of them condemning good, old-fashioned executions as carried out by good, old-fashioned states like Iran:
Iran hanged 29 people convicted of drug trafficking, murder and rape in Tehran's Evin prison, in the largest mass execution in the Islamic republic for years, the state broadcaster said...

The latest hangings bring to at least 155 the number of executions reportedly carried out in Iran this year....

Amnesty International reported that in 2007 Iran applied the death penalty more often than any other country apart from China, executing 317 people during the year...

Capital offences in the Islamic republic include murder, rape, armed robbery, drug trafficking and adultery.

Human rights groups have accused Iran of making excessive use of the death penalty but Tehran insists it is an effective deterrent that is carried out only after an exhaustive judicial process.

No respect for traditional values these filthy lefty "human rights groups".

Look, it's very simple - if you don't like their ludicrously barbaric rules, then don't be born in a country hardline theocrats rule with an iron fist! (Or, in the case of western lefties, don't read about such a country.) Why is that so difficult to understand? Why can't "progressives" ever just accept that something terrible is justified merely because that's the way it presently is? Why do they always want to change things that are unfair? If they'd just accept that's the way it is and therefore the way it must always be, QED, then they'd be much happier.

Meanwhile, I'm sure we social conservatives all had similar thoughts when we read that list, didn't we? Man, those Sharia Law guys really know how to do law and order! You can really respect their enthusiasm for doling out brutal medieval punishments to criminals. Including for adultery! That's just awesome.

It's a pity they're fundamentalists on the other side, isn't it? Imagine how well we'd get along if they'd only renounce Mohammed. We could join forces and really bash those lefties about a bit.

Ah well. Maybe one day.
