Thank god for Skype

One thing I hadn't expected about all this travelling overseas business was how utterly depressing and heartbreaking it could be, visiting usually remote family and friends.

Because the more you come to discover (or remember) how much you enjoy someone's company, the worse it is when you inevitably have to leave. Call me man who states the bleeding obvious, but I prefer the people I like not to be on the opposite side of the globe. It is annoying discovering or remembering that I like people so inconveniently located.

And this turns out to be an inevitable side-effect of travelling.

Unless you were lucky enough to have horrible family and friends who you'd be glad to leave, I suppose. Oh, to be able to leave this country with relief, glad I was escaping unpleasant or boring people I never really wanted to see again. That would be marvellous. So - damn the people I've met for being so nice and making me wish I'd done more visiting and less sight-seeing. Damn their generous, lovable natures to hell!

I hope they feel ashamed for being so awesome and making me wish I could stay, I really do.
