What have the homeless done for me lately?

Compassionate retailing CEO Gerry Harvey on charity for the poor:
RETAILING billionaire Gerry Harvey has lamented that Australian charity is being wasted on "no-hopers".

Asked in a new book about his community role, Mr Harvey said giving to people who "are not putting anything back into the community" is like "helping a whole heap of no-hopers to survive for no good reason".

He said it was arguable that giving charity to the homeless was "just wasted". "It might be a callous way of putting it but what are they doing?" he said. "They are just a drag on the whole community."

Vote 1 Gerry Harvey's "Starve The Homeless" Party!

He's a humble man. (Go Harvey, Go Harvey, Go Harvey, yeah!)

He's an inspiring man. (Have you heard him speak in his commercials?)

And he doesn't see any reason why people who need help (it doesn't matter why they need help, all that matters is that by asking for it they have become "a drag on the whole community"), shouldn't die miserably in the gutter. It's not like they're human beings or anything.

A true visionary for our time. Go Harvey!

UPDATE: Gerry's pissweak attempt to undo the damage:
"I'm furious. I haven't suggested that homeless people shouldn't get anything. What I said was that I believed in helping people reach their potential," he told the Herald

"I've done plenty of giving in my time. I've given heaps of money to bloody charity. This caused me a lot of pain. It's bullshit."

Yeah, I don't know how we jumped to that unreasonable conclusion from "helping a whole heap of no-hopers to survive for no good reason".
