Pro-suppression of protests protest

Lovely to see young Chinese people out on the weekend protesting against their government's international policy. Of course, they were Australian Chinese people, protesting in Australia against the Australian government's policy on China, not Chinese people in China protesting against the Chinese government's policy on anything whatsoever. Don't be silly!

Did these young protesters consider the difference between the way they were being treated by the government they criticised, and the way the government they were supporting treats dissent? Did they notice the lack of tanks and soldiers shooting at them? Are they even aware of what happened to their young countrymen back in 1989 when they tried a similar thing in Beijing? Apparently not.

How is it even possible to be so ignorant of your own country's recent history that you could fail to have the comparison occur to you?

"What do we want? The brutal suppression of anyone in China or Tibet who'd dare try to exercise the same right of protest we're enjoying today! When do we want it? FOREVER!"

Just goes to show how idiotic patriotism can make a person.

Meanwhile, I wish I'd known about it in advance. I could've shown up with some signs reading "DO YOU PEOPLE REALISE THE IRONY OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING?!" and "HOW CAN YOU DEFEND A REGIME THAT RUNS OVER DEMOCRACY PROTESTERS WITH TANKS?" These people, who would seriously suggest that their countrymen back in China need an authoritarian government to tell them what to do because those are "Asian values", are the real racists.
